Now i reckon ive grown ancient enough to where i want to tackle something i can appreciate and place some money into. I got the silverado custom 2 in 1 and i made it my own and lowered it with some wheels i had from another car. I really like it and im looking for other peoples inspiration to build my own and new toys.

Ishii gets another win; Sakuraba quits because of dreaded ear injury

Satoshi Ishii took another step in his progression as a mixed martial artist by downing legendary kickboxer Jerome LeBanner. The 38-year-ancient K-1 veteran had a tough time staying off his back. Ishii took him down whenever and wherever.

The Japanese judo champion’s best round was the third when he threatened with several kimura attempts. He rolled to a unanimous choice against a guy fighting MMA for the first time since 2006.

Ishii (pictured on the right) was giving away 31 pounds and used a lot of energy in controlling the Frenchman on the floor. There’s still questions about his stamina. At only 233 pounds, he’s also caught in no man’s land between light heavyweight and the massive heavyweights. The 24-year-ancient is now 4-1 in MMA.

While Ishii may be the future of Japanese MMA, Kazushi Sakaraba is clearly the past. The 41-year-ancient lost again and walked away from the ring looking like an accident victim. He didn’t suffer much hurt in his loss against Marius Zaromskis but one of his cauliflower ears got popped early in the fight, making it impossible to continue.

Just 90 seconds into the fight, Sakuraba (26-14-1) was bleeding like a stuff pig. The doctors checked it once then Zaromskis landed another excellent shot on that right ear. Sakuraba clearly felt the pain and grabbed the ear. HDNet color voice Frank Trigg said  "his ear fell off the side of his head."

The doctor stopped the fight and Sakuraba left the ring with his head in a towel wrapped by loads of tape. The man who once fought a 90-minute battle against Royce Gracie, has now lost three straight and five-of-seven.

MMA Top 10 Bantamweights: Moving to the UFC

by Michael David SmithWorld Extreme Cagefighting is over, and its fighters are heading to the UFC — which means the UFC now has, by far, the strongest bantamweight division in mixed martial arts.

In fact, although Japan was once home to most of the sport’s best small fighters, in 2011 just about every single significant 135-pound fight will take place inside the Octagon.

The largest fight will be the first UFC title defense for bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, who’s No. 1 in our bantamweight rankings and ready for a rematch with No. 2 Urijah Faber. See how the rest of the bantamweights stack up below.

Clay Guida: ‘The road to victory is built in the RV’

Our friends from Fight! Magazine bring us a look at Clay Guida and his spartan lifestyle while training in New Mexico for his UFC 125 bout with Takanori Gomi.

While working on his fight game in New Mexico, Guida stays on an RV that he parks on a reservation. It’s not the most conventional digs for a professional athlete, but it works for him.

Guida talks about how his training has changed since joining Greg Jackson’s Camp. He’s been doing more than officiating chicken nugget-eating contests. The training is more structured and he can constantly work on the fundamentals. Since going to Jackson’s, he’s 2-1, beating Shannon Gugerty and Rafael dos Anjos. Will that be enough to beat Gomi?

Where would MMA be without Chuck Liddell?

Certain athletes can carry a sport to the next level. Was Chuck Liddell "that guy" for MMA and the UFC?

Has MMA really arrived yet? Maybe. Maybe not. It is safe to say the sport might be still be struggling terribly if it weren’t for "The Iceman’s" contributions in and out of the Octagon.

Liddell arrived on the scene at UFC 17 in 1998. He had the look, with the mohawk haircut and a scowl, plus a like of the standup game. If you reckon some fans complain now about the ground game, imagine trying to sell MMA back in 1998 to an audience that only wanted blood and guts, and was raised on watching boxers duke it out.

Liddell produced huge wins over Randy Couture at UFC 52 and 57. He also place an exclamation point on his war with Tito Ortiz by crushing him at UFC 66. That 2007 event was the first time the UFC passed the one million mark in pay-per-view buys on a single card.

There was a lot of work outside the cage that led to that moment.

Liddell, along with Dana White, basically went on a barnstorming media tour for three years.

My radio show in Las Vegas had Liddell on at least a half-dozen times.

The future champ signed autographs and made appearances all over the U.S., even if only a few dozen people showed up in the early going. But it was that grassroots effort, which Liddell took part in wholeheartedly, that laid the groundwork for what we see today. Now a "disappointing" UFC PPV draws 350,000 buys (numbers the company would have been thrilled with during the dark era) and the company is reportedly worth in excess of $1 billion.

The sport is also all over cable television. Remember the days when holding a UFC card outside of Las Vegas seemed like just a dream? In 2010, the promotion hit 18 different cities in six different countries.

Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar are given a lot of the credit, and rightly so, for saving the company in 2005 with their scrap at the first "The Ultimate Fighter Finale." Don’t forget it was Liddell, along with Couture, who coached that first season. It was a reality show that the promotion and participants didn’t even know would make it onto television. What if Liddell, who was becoming a huge star at that point, had an inflated ego and said he didn’t want to do it? What was the fallback plot?

In the cage, Liddell dominated the American MMA landscape in 2005-06. As his career was winding down, he became a crossover star on shows like "The Simpsons" and "Dancing With The Stars."

Liddell probably shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as other sports greats like Jack Dempsey, Bill Russell/Wilt Chamberlain, Dale Earnhardt, Johnny Unitas, Babe Ruth. But 25 years from now, he’ll be looked upon fondly by those who’ll remember the early days of MMA when it was an absolute zero on the sports landscape.

Throughout the day, we’ll post some ancient interviews we did with Liddell from 2004-2009.

Aug. 2004 – Liddell talks about his fight at UFC 49.

Oct. of 2006 – Liddell and Matt Hughes before UFC 64.

Dec. 2006 — While cutting weight joined us to talk about Tito fight before UFC 66

Sept. 2007 — Before UFC 76 and after his loss to Quinton Jackson

Apr. 2009 – Liddell before his fight against Mauricio Rua at UFC 97.

Honda CR-Z Memorial Award Edition

Getting an award is quite an honor, but getting the title of Japanese Car of the Year is apparently something that warrants a small more than a simple thank you. The Honda CR-Z’s success on the Japanese market has led it to this prestigious award, and has led Honda to unveil a special edition to celebrate the event. Appropriately named the Memorial Award Edition, this special edition will only be available in Japan in a limited run of 1000 units. Honda sure seems excited about this title, huh?

The CR-Z Memorial Award Edition will be offered exclusively in Pearl Deep Sapphire Blue exterior paint with Dark Pewter Gray 16″ wheels in a five double-spoke design. Onlookers will know exactly what this car is all about thanks to a sticker affixed on the driver’s side quarter glass that lists all of its options.

For the interior, the new CR-Z Memorial Award Edition adds a medium gray end, sporty aluminum pedals, and a standard navigation system. Other than that, you get the standard 1.5-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine with 122 HP and 123 lb.-ft. of torque.

The price for the special CR-Z Memorial Award Edition is JPY 2,794,000 (or about $34,200 at the current exchange rates). So basically, customers interested in the Award model will get to spend nearly twice the amount of the standard CR-Z for less upgrades than we can count on one hand. Doesn’t seem smart, does it?

Honda CR-Z Memorial Award Edition originally appeared on topspeed.com on Thursday, 30 December 2010 16:00 EST.

Gegard Mousasi Shows Off His Striking, Shinya Aoki Does Not

Two mixed martial artists had very different results when they took on kickboxers at the New Year’s Eve Dynamite!! event in Japan, as Gegard Mousasi place on a striking clinic in beating K-1 heavyweight champion Kyotaro, while Shinya Aoki was knocked out by Yuichiro Nagashima.

Mousasi is first and foremost an MMA fighter, but he showed once again that he has K-1-level striking. Mousasi was nothing small of sensational in beating Kyotaro, knocking down the Japanese champ in the second round with a gorgeous combination of punches. It was the second time Mousasi has beaten an experienced K-1 veteran under K-1 rules on a New Year’s Eve card in Japan; Mousasi also beat the Japanese kickboxer Musashi two years ago.

Dana White Expects to Know ‘Ultimate Fighter’ Coaches on Friday

by Michael David SmithDana WhiteIn the week and a half since the Finale of The Ultimate Fighter Season 12, speculation has run rampant about who the coaches will be for the show’s 13th season, which will start taping in early 2011. UFC President Dana White said on Wednesday that he’s about 48 hours away from knowing the coaches’ identities.

“We should have it done by Friday,” White said at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, where he announced that the UFC would host a fight card in Brazil in August.

So who are the likely choices?

Plastic Wave

This is cool. A "Plastic Wave" made out of 500 Pet bottles by TWOTHRIDS in co-operation with artist Kathleen Egan. The sculpture was exhibited at the Bread & Butter trade show in Germany. TWOTHIRD say; "It helped us make awareness on the fact that our ocean is becoming a giant landfill full of plastic but that we have the power to stop this". Alongside the exhibit TWOTHIRD collected signatures in a petition titled "Make a stand for an ocean free of plastic!". Nice one TWOTHIRD, and fantastic work Kathleen!

Shinya Aoki embarrasses himself in brutal loss at Dynamite!! 2010

Shinya Aoki is one of the world’s best fighters at 155 pounds but there are times you wonder if his mind strays. He accepted a ridiculous fight at K-1′s year ender and paid the price.

After a round fought under kickboxing rules, Aoki tried a sloppy a shot and got ruined by a knee to the face from Yuichiro Nagashima. Aoki was out cold for several minutes. He made it less than 15 seconds into the second round.

Aoki (on the left) acted like a clown in the opening round. The three-minute long round, waged under K-1 rules but with four ounce gloves. Aoki tried to avoid a real fight by illegally clinching and throwing Nagashima to the mat. He also tried several  goofy pro wrestling-style dropkicks, and attempted to vault himself off the ropes a few times. The result of the shenanigans was Aoki falling to the floor and wasting away the round.

Apparently, Nagashima expected a quick shot in the second and was waiting to deliver that huge knee. In 2009, some considered Aoki the No. 1 lightweight in the world. He lost a one-sided fight to Gilbert Melendez in 2010 and now this debacle.

Couture uses Twitter to ‘kind of’ retire

Randy Couture’s in the land of indecision right now. He’s caught between making movies and stepping back into the Octagon at the age of 47.

While on location for his latest movie role in a Bruce Willis film, Couture Tweeted Tuesday night that he’s done fighting.

Multiple sources from his gym in Las Vegas, Xtreme Couture, confirmed that Couture has been talking about retirement but were unaware of the Tweet.

Josh Yucky from ESPN.com exchanged text messages with Couture and the former UFC light heavyweight/heavyweight champ said he’s still open to fighting.

Sources say that Couture was offered Lyoto Machida, but then the offer was rescinded.

Couture wants either Machida or Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.

The Rua fight won’t happen. After beating guys like James Toney, Brandon Vera and Mark Coleman, Couture still isn’t at the front of the line for a shot at Rua’s light heavyweight title.

A Machida fight is problematic because there are some within the promotion who worry about the fact that the Brazilian has lost two straight. A third loss in a row would be crushing for "The Dragon."

Couture was offered Quinton "Rampage" Jackson but has his heart set on Machida or Rua. Plus, can you fight someone like Rampage when you’re "mixing" a training camp into all of your other endeavors?

Couture’s lawyer also told Mike Chiappetta from FanHouse that the Tweet was "not an official announcement."

The Tweet also sounded very similar to what he told ESPNRadio1100 at the start of the month and what he told RawVegas.tv in early November.

It appears the UFC needs to talk Couture into fighting Jackson or Couture needs to convince the promotion that he should get Machida next. Couture seems to be much more intrigued stylistically by a bout against Machida.

UFC president Dana White was unavailable for comment. He and UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta are in Brazil.

WEC 53′s Three Stars: Pettis, Wineland and Cruz

The WEC went out with a bang on Thursday night, leaving MMA fans with memories of crazy kicks, talented fighters and another reliably exciting card. Who rose above?

No. 1 star — Anthony Pettis: This was an simple choice. Pettis won the WEC lightweight belt by realizing that he was in a razor-close fight, and then hitting one of the craziest moves MMA fans have ever seen. His off-the-wall kick made Sportscenter’s top plays and was nothing small of Matrix-esque. The scary thing about Pettis is that he’s just 23 years ancient.

No. 2 star — Eddie Wineland: The WEC’s first bantamweight champ closed the promotion with a humongous slam knockout of Ken Stone. His first-round KO was Wineland’s fourth win in a row. Though Urijah Faber is the obvious next contender for Dominick Cruz’s belt, Wineland is making a case to be in the upper echelon of the UFC bantamweights.

No. 3 star — Dominick Cruz: The new UFC bantamweight champ didn’t end Scott Jorgensen, but that has more to do with Jorgensen’s stone chin than Cruz’s lack of ability. Cruz executed a perfect gameplan, sticking and moving throughout the entire fight and taking down Jorgensen with ease. On Twitter last night, I heard fans say that Cruz didn’t engage, and that’s just crazy talk. Cruz engaged; Jorgensen just couldn’t keep up with him. For those who don’t like his quick-footed style … haters gonna despise

A special mention to the WEC: World Extreme Cagefighting earned the reputation of always giving fans exciting cards. Last night was no different. Though the main card had a few less-than-exciting rounds, the main events delivered. As that promotion ends and gives way to the UFC, one last kudos to the small promotion that could.
