What do you think of Stargate Universe and the latest “Earth” episode?

Question by GOKU8: What do you reckon of Stargate Universe and the latest “Earth” episode?
I have the series tremendously dissapointing. I have followed stargate from when the movie was first released and it is my favourite show. But SGU has not met my expectations in terms of fascinating characters, technology, and plots. It seems its mostly drama and about peoples feelings and their past. The latest show i have found that rush has an fascinating character and eli, and the last point with trafford was shocking and im keen to know what happens next. What do you reckon?

Best answer:

Answer by Emily
Earth episode SUCKED!!! if there wasn’t a stargate I could’ve sworn I would have filed that episode under Drama. I would not be so nice if it wasn’t stargate, If it wasn’t I would have stopped on the first episode. Yea its “different” but their honestly ditching the long time fans and picking up a young audience, I’m 14 and I find this stuff bull. I despise everyone except Eli, Rush and greer.

Q&A: What is the New Stargate Universe about?

Question by Shikamaru420: What is the New Stargate Universe about?
I have been Watchin Stargate SG1 Since it came out, as well as Stargate Atlantis, I like these shows. I have been seeing Commercials for a new series. Does anyone know anything about it?

Best answer:

Answer by Morelen
It’s basically about a group of people, both military and civilian, who strand on a ship of the Ancients that travels through another galaxy and places Stargates throughout this galaxy.
There were lots of rumors about what the show is going to be like. In the beginning it sounded like a mix of “90210″ and “Voyager” but I reckon it sounds ok by now.

Here are more detailed infos on the whole thing:

Question by Graphic Wizard: which Episode i must see before star to watch SGU stargate universe?
I like the trailer of SGU but when i start seeing the first Episode of SGU if find myself in the middle of the tale … So which Episode From ( SG Atlantis & SG-1 ) i must see before star watching SGU stargate universe.

Best answer:

Answer by Slyfy
Full Circle (season 6)
Lost City pt 1 and 2 (season 7)
Company of Thieves (season 10)

There isn’t really that much you need to see to know universe other than the whole chevron thing. Basically, Destiny is shipped launched into space by another race (the ancients). There mission is to dial planets that have stargates, seeded by previous ships, dial them, then go. Sounds dumb right? The show really contains a lot of plot holes, so things might sound confusing. But I suggest watching all of SG1 and SGA because they rock compared to SGU.

Warehouse 13 is listed in January (29th), but from what I just read in the forum, it’ll most likely be reruns because the second season is not finished yet.

Local Massachusetts Filmmakers Join Creative Partnership with National Technology Camp at Merrimack, Bentley and Harvard

Campbell, CA (PRWEB) June 30, 2010

For their upcoming 12th season, iD Tech Camps, the largest youth technology summer camp in North America, has partnered with local Massachusetts filmmakers to offer an extensive course in Digital Video Editing and Special Effects.

We’ve all been guilty of playing “arm-chair film critic,” sitting at home or in the theatre wondering how we would change the movie to make it our own. A scene transition here, special effects and a new soundtrack there–even if it’s a wildly successful top quality film, the creative bug in all of us itches to make changes. While years ago it would never have been possible, kids and teens in today’s world now have an outlet to satisfy their creative need.

The course, geared towards students with an interest in filmmaking and film production, features “Freedom Park,” an award-winning, independent family comedy, which ran for a combined 15 weeks in 9 different Massachusetts theatres. The film features Boston sports greats Louis Tiant, Lyndon Byers, and Jerry Remy, and follows two buddies, who after running into debt distress with a Vegas crime boss, return to their hometown of Freedom Park, Massachusetts to start a gambling ring on Small League baseball to pay off their debt.

Within the weeklong video editing course–which is offered at various university locations including Harvard, Bentley and Merrimack in Massachusetts–students will use actual footage from “Freedom Park” to learn to mark and trim clips, add music, sound effects and other special effects with the industry’s top software and tools. Also, at the end of each camp session, finished products will be showcased on YouTube® and each student will take home a copy of “Freedom Park” on DVD to see how their edited version compares to the actual film.

The film’s Producer Andrea Ajemian and Writer/Co-Director Jon Artigo formed the company Artigo/Ajemian Films, which is based in Worcester, MA. Their teen drama “Still Green” was released nationally on DVD in the fall of 2009, after winning “Best Ensemble” at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, as well as “Best Narrative Feature” at the New England Film and Video Festival.

Their latest feature film “BoyBand: Breakin’ Through in 82’” was shot entirely in Massachusetts in 2008, and is currently playing in select theatres in Massachusetts. The film is about a high school quarterback who quits his football team to turn his heavy metal band into the first ever boyband in 1982.

In addition to starring 11 Hollywood actors including Robert Hoffman (“Step Up 2,” “She’s the Man”), Ming Na (“Stargate Universe,” “ER,” “The Joy Luck Club”), Ryan Hansen (“Party Down,” “Veronica Mars”), Michael Copon (“One Tree Hill,” “Scorpion King II”), and Laura Breckenridge (“Gossip Girl”), over 30 local actors have roles in “BoyBand.” “Freedom Park” Executive Producer Victor J. Melfa, Jr. recently Co-Produced the documentary “The Lost Son of Havana,” which was produced by the Farrelly Brothers and is the tale of Cuban born Red Sox star, Louis “El Tiante”’ Tiant.

iD Tech Camps summer programs in Massachusetts have already started, and will be running through late August. Gaining hands-on experience with actual footage from “Freedom Park,” this summer season’s batch of inspired students hope to soon be the one’s in the director’s chair.

ABOUT iD TECH CAMPS

iD Tech Camps is North America’s #1 provider of summer computer camps and technology camps for kids and teens with programs at 60 elite universities in the USA and Canada. Locations include Stanford and Harvard. Christopher Lloyd and Michael Shanks Beam Over to Tampa for Vulcan Events Sci-Fi Convention May 1-2

Special apperance by a replica of the Back to the Future Delorean

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) April 14, 2010

Christopher Lloyd and Michael Shanks join nine other celebrities and guests in a weekend-long sci-fi convention presented by Vulcan Events. Convention-host veteran Marc B. Lee will bring his specialized brand of humor and energy to the event and the DeLorean Time Machine will be there celebrating the 25th Anniversary of “Back to the Future” and raising funds and awareness for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Their inaugural event promises to provide a relaxed and sociable atmosphere where fans can mingle with stars and delight in the many convention activities including auctions, themed dance party Saturday night, and special events for children. In conjunction with the Starfleet chapter USS Shooting Star, Vulcan Events will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for “the largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters”.

First-time convention goers will be pleasantly surprised at the ambiance and disposition of the average patron. “We may look like geeks in rubber masks but we are doctors, lawyers, and people from all walks of life. This is our fun; this is our escape” notes Javier Garcia, one of the promoters.

All ticket options are available for advanced buy but the highest ticket package—Platinum—is already sold out. Tickets start at preshow and at the door.

About the Celebrity Guests

Christopher Lloyd’s first major film role was Max Taber, a mental patient in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He is widely known for his portrayal of Emmett “Doc” Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy, Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Uncle Fester in the Addams Family, and Reverend Jim Ignatowski in Taxi, a role that earned him two Emmy Awards.

Joining Lloyd is Michael Shanks from Stargate fame. Shanks starred in ten seasons of Stargate SG-1 as the brilliant if slightly awkward Dr. Daniel Jackson. He continued his role in several Stargate movies as well as a recurring character in spin-off Stargate Atlantis and the new Stargate Universe. Shanks has also appeared in other television shows such as 24, Andromeda, CSI: Miami, Burn Notice, Eureka, Sanctuary, and Supernatural. He is slated to appear in the season finale of Smallville reprising his role of Carter Hall aka Hawkman.

Rounding out the guest list are numerous celebrities from the sci-fi world. Gary Graham has played various roles in the sci-fi universe including a starring role as Detective Matthew Sikes in Alien Nation and a recurring role as Vulcan Ambassador Soval on Enterprise. William Morgan Sheppard’s creepy portrayal of the Klingon penal colony commander in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and Captain Archibald Amundsen Witwicky in Transformers are just two of his more than 150 film and television credits.

While many recognize Tony Todd as the Candyman from the horror film series, he has numerous sci-fi and mainstream credits to his name including an older Jake Sisko on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Worf’s brother Kurn in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and roles in Chuck, Boston Legal, Stargate SG-1, Charmed, Andromeda, Smallville, Angel, Babylon 5, Star Trek: Voyager, Xena: Warrior Princess, Beastmaster, The X Files, and all three Final Destination movies.

Cigar-chomping Al Calavicci from Quantum Leap was only one of Dean Stockwell’s many roles. Starting at a very young age, he shared the screen with Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly in Anchors Aweigh and has gone on to star in nearly 200 television shows and movies including Enterprise, Stargate SG-1, and a recent recurring role as John Cavil in SyFy channel’s Battlestar Galactica.

Wholesome mom Annie Camden from 7th Heaven is perhaps her most well-known role but Catherine Hicks also played cetacean (whale) biologist Dr. Gillian Taylor in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, a movie ahead of the green initiative by 20 years.

Sally Kellerman and Gary Lockwood stared in the Star Trek pilot Where No Man Has Gone Before in 1966. Kellerman played Dr. Elizabeth Dehner and went on to play Major Margaret ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan in Robert Altman’s film M*A*S*H. Lockwood described Lt. Cmdr. Gary Mitchell in the Star Trek pilot and returned to space in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey playing Dr. Frank Poole.

Also appearing all weekend are guest artist Tye Bourdony and guest author Glenda C. Finkelstein. Musical Guest Sci-Fried will be performing Saturday night.

About Vulcan Events

Focused on putting on fantastic events for the fans, Fernando Martinez and Javier Garcia come together to produce intimate conventions offering refreshing alternatives to other convention styles that offer one long line after another. Drawing on more than 25 years of experience, they bring trust and confidence back to the small-convention market.

Q&A: What is the name of the song that plays during the highlight scene of Stargate Universe?

Question by Knight_: What is the name of the song that plays during the highlight scene of Stargate Universe?
In the first couple of seconds of Stargate Universe, there’s that epic/trailer styled music that plays during the highligh/tale refresh reel. I just cannot seem to find the name of it or whether it was specifically composed for the show. I’d really like to listen to it without the commentary in it.
The song is only in the beginning of Episodes 11 – Current

I reckon Stargate: Universe looks excellent, and I’m looking for things to start watching until the summer seasons start. How much do we know about StarGate Universe and StarGate Atlantise the Film?

Question by Electro: How much do we know about StarGate Universe and StarGate Atlantise the Film?
I want to know when the StarGate Atlantise film is realised nd will it be played on Sky 1 or 2, and how much do we know about StargGate Universe?

Best answer:

Answer by Morelen
The Atlantis movie is likely to be released in late 2009 or early 2010. They haven’t started shooting yet.
“There was initial talk of a summer shoot but, given the tight scheduling, fall looks more likely.” — Joseph Mallozzi, March 11, 2009.
I don’t reckon any channel has already bought rights to broadcast it. It’s simply too early.

Regarding Universe:
They got a few fascinating actors (like Robert Carlyle, Ming-Na, Christopher McDonald) and the tale and characters seem ok so far. It’s supposed to be “a small more character-based” (like BSG), “a small less rooted in a sci-fi mythology” (which I’m not too pleased about).
For the characters:

Tale Spoilers:

They started shooting in February, it’s supposed to air in fall (October, I reckon, in the US).

Question by Thunderhead: When do you expect Stargate Universe to take a nosedive?
I’m really looking forward to when Stargate Universe goes down in a tailspin and crashes. I’m really pissed that they just left Atlantis sitting in San Francisco Bay and I really want them to continue or make a movie.

Best answer:

Answer by flamevulture17
Overall, my guess is it won’t die yet until the very end, since it’s already getting quite fascinating with the new darker style/atmosphere of the show. Just like SGA, stargate universe may end the franchise with a disappointing cancellation. You also have to take into consideration that MGM is low an financial help and audience support, but that won’t stop the producers & writers from coming up new thoughts for stargate. Unless one very silly or weird episode confuses you, where you don’t fell like watching it anymore, and you get lost in the show, then SGU plunges to weirdness.

As a distinguished actor, director and writer in the world of entertainment, Lou Diamond Phillips has also turned his creative talents and personal efforts towards improving the lives of many people who needed a tireless champion.

While most cases of Lyme disease are reported from North America and Europe, the disease is also found for example, in China, Australia, Japan, North Africa and Israel. “For over 30 years, nothing seems to have improved for those stricken with chronic Lyme disease. Misdiagnosed and improperly treated Lyme disease can lead to a devastating effect on a person, a family, and a community.

Time for Lyme hopes that the community will join with the honored guests on April 18th to help Time for Lyme realize its dream to make a Lyme-Free world.

About Lyme disease

Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne disease in the United States, with more than 20,000 new cases officially reported every year. Unofficial counts are much higher. Lyme has been found in all 50 states with a strikingly high percentage of its victims being children.

Children are particularly vulnerable because they are outside a lot, especially in the early summer, when ticks are most plentiful. If they become infected, kids may experience headaches, fatigue and flu-like symptoms. If the disease is left untreated, children may also develop muscular and joint problems, learning and behavioral problems, depression, nerve hurt, memory loss and other cognitive, psychiatric and neurological problems.

Lyme disease is caused by a bacterium carried in certain ticks. Most, but not all, people infected with Lyme will see a bull’s-eye rash at the site of the tick bite between three and 30 days after infection. While this rash is a definitive symptom of Lyme, most diagnostic tests for the disease are unreliable and may produce fake negatives, according to TFL and the Lyme Disease Association (LDA). TFL and LDA together have endowed the Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases Research Center at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, the first of its kind dedicated to the study of chronic Lyme disease.

About the Time for Lyme Gala

On April 18, 2009, Time for Lyme will present its bi- annual Gala event – The Dream – Making a Lyme Free World, at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, CT. Proceeds from the Gala will be used to combate the devastating effects of Lyme and other tick borne illnesses. During the course of the evening, TFL will share information regarding its work in education, advocacy, and will talk about progress in research. Please visit http://www.timeforlyme.org/dreamgala or call (203) 969-1333 for more information and tickets.

PassmoreLab Converting MGM’s Stargate SG-3000 Thrill Ride Visuals to 3-D

San Diego (PRWEB) April 30, 2009

PassmoreLab is collaborating with MGM Location Based Entertainment to convert MGM’s Stargate SG-3000 simulator ride film from 2-D to 3-D. Stargate SG-3000 is a four-minute simulation experience based on MGM’s long running Stargate SG-1 television series.

Stargate SG-3000, originally produced by Doug Yellin and directed by Aaron Powell and Yas Takata, builds on the tale arcs developed in the Stargate SG-1 series. For the first time ever, riders really get to experience the feeling of going through the Stargate in different dimensions or worlds. In 3-D, this experience will be even more realistic and engaging.

“Stargate SG-3000′s conversion to 3-D will make riders feel even more like they’re really experiencing the sensation of going through a Stargate,” said PassmoreLab President Greg Passmore. “The new and improved simulation film will add depth to the attraction and will be a hit with existing Stargate fans as well as those unfamiliar with the television series.”

“We are pleased to be working with PassmoreLab to enhance the overall Stargate SG-3000 experience,” said George Wade, Senior Vice President, MGM Location Based Entertainment. “With the upcoming premier of SGU: Stargate Universe on the Sci-Fi Channel later this year we felt there was no better opportunity to truly take guests on this enhanced journey through the Stargate and no one better to bring this to reality than the team at PassmoreLab.”

Stargate SG-3000 has been featured at Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo, California and Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, as well as Lotte World in Seoul Korea since 2004. The ride debuted at the Space Center Bremen in Germany in December 2003 to rave reviews.

Stargate SG-3000 features a pre-show where riders are briefed on their “mission”. The briefing clarifies that the ride experience is set in the year 3000, and that all Stargates have been disabled for many years to prevent them from falling into the incorrect hands. Riders are then tasked with capturing the Gatekey to Stargates throughout the universe to prevent the evil Queen Satra and her army from taking control of all the Stargates and the universe itself. Riders then enter the simulator, where they pass through a Stargate four separate times, all the while chasing after Satra in pursuit of the Gatekey.

Attractions Media Entertainment distributes Stargate SG-3000 throughout the world, and will also distribute the 3-D version of this adventure.

Launching this fall, SGU: Stargate Universe follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth. Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship’s Stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board the Destiny will reveal the heroes and villains among them.

Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, will serve as executive producers and writers on the new series. SGU will debut as a two-hour movie event on the Sci-Fi Channel and will be distributed by MGM Worldwide Television Distribution.
